There’s nothing like seeing Agassi live on court. I watched him play for years on TV when he was at his best. The US Open match in 2002 between Agassi and Sampras was incredible. But watching them play live on court together, even if it is 7 years later, is something I’ll never forget. Sampras is an absolutely brilliant player, but there’s something about the magic of Agassi that really lit up the crowd at The Venetian on Sunday. I guess because that’s the first time most people had seen him in person. Sampras was at The Venetian a couple of years ago in a match against Federer – another great game.

This year, I thought Sampras might actually let Agassi win, with Agassi taking a strong lead in the first set, but it wasn’t to be. Sampras slammed one of Agassi’s shots and everyone thought it was all over, but Agassi moved right up to the net and fired back with some great volleying between them – a real crowd pleaser. That’s when somebody from the audience had the nerve to shout out: “Andre, I love you!” He smiled up at the crowd and said: “I love you, too!”

So Sampras may still be a winner, but Agassi still gets all the love!
